Welcome to the first edition of Mick’s Five

My name is Mick and today I have launched a twice weekly newsletter (Monday and Thursday) to share with you what I find great about our city of Sydney … and the greater Sydney region.

I know it is really easy to get stuck in a rut, doing the same things week in and week out and not realising what adventures lay within the boundaries of Australia’s best city.

It’s the mission to bring awareness to you in two short newsletters (about five minutes read), to the huge variety of things you can experience in our great city. I publish my insider tips on food, drinks and entertainment options for you, your family and friends.

Help me spread the “good word” by sharing Mick’s Five with the worthy amongst your friends 😉

1. Get the boost from the finest caffeine high ☕️

You wont get skittled in Skittle Lane.

A ripper small chain of cafe’s with the city being served by both the King Street and Circular Quay sites. The beach side dwellers at Bondi Beach, Brookvale and Manly can also get their taste buds tickled by the seasonal range of coffee available including single origin choices.

If you are into home or office brewing then the team at Skittle Lane have you covered with a great variety of beans, brew gear, homewares and subscriptions for delivery to you.

Bagging a huge 4.7 star Google reviews rating says it all.

2. Drinking at The Duke, where England can be experienced in Sydney 🤩

The Duke of Clarence is a small pub inspired by an 18th Century English tavern including the original furnishings and materials being sourced from the UK.

You don’t need to fork out on an airfare to the UK to immerse yourself in the finer English drinking experience.

As one of the owners, Mikey Enright, puts it, “The Duke of Clarence is everything that we wanted to have in a tavern that We’ve not been able to get — you can have a genuine cask ale, or dare I say it, a decent pint of Guinness; a European wine or champagne; or a cocktail that’s been rotovapped with English essences using ingredients that were used back during the times of Charles Dickens.”

Trading hours are 12 noon to 12 midnight with the exception of Sunday when the close the door at 9pm.

Jackie Wu sums it up in a Google Review “…The staff and service there were impeccable. They were very friendly and welcoming and gave great recommendations for their very wide range of liquor options…”.

3. Missed out on Coldplay tix 😭 well how about some comedy to heal the heart ❤️

Russell up some of your mates ( including Russell if he is available 😉 ) and head to the Comedy Store in The Entertainment Quarter at Moore Park on Thursday for “The Big Thursday Showcase”. Tickets start at $30 and include a $15 bar credit … banger value !

As the good people at the Comedy Store say “Thursdays at the Comedy Store are your chance to see the same huge house hold names, exciting secret guests, and hand picked hot new faces, all for less!…Line up To Be Advised”

To avoid disappointment buy your tickets online at the Comedy Store

4. Can’t wait for your beach holiday? Hit the ferry and have your toes in the sand in no time ⏲️

Now we have longer days you can get to a beach side resort in no time on the Freshwater ferry from Circular Quay to Manly.

For around $18 return trip you can take a cruise to Manly, walk the 10 minutes along The Corso and have your feet planted in the golden sands of Manly beach in under 45 minutes.

I find a visit to Manly after work is like a “shot of holiday”. The sand, surf, tourist feel makes it feel like a refreshing mini break by the sea.

The Circular Quay home bound trip on the ferry is stunning as the Sun starts to set and the Opera House and Bridge are bathing in the last rays of the day.

The timetable can be found on the Transport NSW website at this LINK

5. Got a Netflix account and plan on staying indoors then check out the “Aussie Yellowstone” / “Aussie Succession”

Bursting onto the small screen is the Netflix series “Territory

I couldn't’ say it better than the Netflix guys … “When the world’s largest cattle station is left without a clear successor, generational clashes threaten to tear the Lawson family apart. Sensing this once great dynasty is in decline, the outback’s most powerful factions – rival cattle barons, desert gangsters, Indigenous elders and billionaire miners – move in for the kill”.

A not to be missed six part first season with cracking performances by brilliant talent including; Anna Torv, Sam Corlett, Michael Dorman, Sara Wiseman and Robert Taylor.

I can’t wait for the second season 😃

Thanks for reading!

Cheers and beers,

Mick
